Rival-S vs SFx Rival-S

Hi,

I'm shopping for my very first striker fire pistol and may end up getting a Canik. But I'm not sure which path to take.

Before joining the forums, I was looking for something that can be carried concealed and good enough for fun shooting at the range. I was torn between the Prime and the LS... Then I saw a YT video of two new Primes supposedly coming out next month.

Then, after recently joining this forum, I'm now torn between getting a conceal carry or one that can replace/out-perform my full-size 1911 (9mm) at the range.

As I'm looking up the possible Canik options for the range gun, I realized the choices are getting more difficult for me. Should I choose a single-action (Rival-S) or a double-action (SFx Rival-S)?

What do you guys think?

If at all possible, try to rent/shoot a pistol before you actually purchase it. Especially when shooting characteristics equate to an intended use, like EDC CC, Range gun, Competition gun, or a home defense gun. I own five Walther pistols which are in their higher end model lineup. Two Canik's, a Girsan & two pistol caliber carbines. My Caniks consist of a Mete MC9 Prime MO4 which is my EDC/CC pistol that doubles for home defense. My second Canik is a Rival SFX (Poly) w/O Sight C RDS which is one of my "range only" pistols. I could use it for competition but that doesn't interest me whatsoever. You will find yourself eventually purchasing more than just one in the end.KG.

Technically-neither. Striker fired, not typical DA/SA or SA. But it acts much more like a single action, load it and it's good to go, always the same trigger pull, not the very heavy pull of a DA, followed by a light SA pull. The safety is a tab on the front of the trigger, it is depressed as you "take up" the trigger. AFAIK all Caniks use this same system.

ever have a problem w/ your rival not completely going into full battery? i get that every now and then... seems like the spring is a little wimpy, especially as it pushes the slide forward the last couple of millimeters..

Canik is the ideal first striker fired pistol choice, because of the trigger and match grade barrel. You'd be hard pressed to find a 3.5-4lb short reset trigger on any other pistol under $750. Although mine is a Gen1, I would recommend the Sfx, as it is Canik's full size pistol, yet light enough for comfortable EDC use. All things considered it will outperform your 1911. I have a LW Commander in 9mm, but either of my Caniks (Sfx and METE SFT) outperform it.

Sorry for taking a while to respond back. I have been busy making extended research and weighing all my options. I have made a firm decision to get a first striker fire that is good enough for both the range and conceal carry. This meant taking the likes of the SFx Rival off my list.

While Canik is taking longer to make the new Prime NC available for purchase, somebody advised me to avoid a Canik Prime if I'm planning to carry the pistol. The reasoning behind it is the claim that the trigger may be too light for carry, especially for me who lack the experience.

I will surely look at the Canik lineup again when I'm ready to get my 2nd striker fire pistol. Probably by that time, more Canik options will be available.

Don't wipe CANIK off your list. Consider the CANIK METE Sft! Small enough to conceal, large enough to giver you accuracy out to 25yds . Most gun stores in my area are smart enough to have indoor ranges, and rental pistols, revolvers, carbines and long guns.. See if you can rent the CANIK METE Sft at one of YOUR LOCAL DEALERS!

No, I haven't taken it entirely off my list. It just happened I wanted my first striker fire not a single-purpose pistol.
