1ST, let me say, "This is not a slam on Canik!"

Got up and headed to the range a bit early as weather was calling for some rain. It was a bitter cold 39 degrees and the rain started on my last mag of the session. I set my target @ 8yds according to my shooting bag range finder. I was not shooting for accuracy today, only functionality. I put 10 rounds of American Gunner 124gr JHP down range, to make sure it would cycle hollow points. Next was 100 rounds of Norma 124gr FMJ and then 100 rounds of PMC Bronze 124gr FMJ.

The Good:

The METE MC9 cycled all the ammo with no issues (as far as the ammo went) and recoil was very manageable to me. I really like the way the gun feels in hand, and I had no hotspot on my hand from the rear grip swell. (I read some had issues there) The MC9 comes to target quite naturally in my hand and I like the sighting system. (No optic yet) Accuracy is pretty good if I do my part. Some fliers as my hands started to get cold and that short trigger reset prompted a couple double taps, with the second shot going wild! Have not had that happen to me in a very long time! Lots more shooting will get me familiar with the trigger. (It is very crisp and again, the reset is short)

The Bad:

For some reason, I had a good number of failures to fire. The slide would go into battery, but when the trigger was pulled, the striker would go forward and NOT hit the primer. (Not talking light primer strike as I looked for that) I checked the striker channel to ensure there were no obstructions but did not have all my cleaning tools in my shooting bag. I did do a cursory clean on it before going but did not take out the striker.

I got the gun home and did a complete and thorough take down and clean of the MC9. I am a tad perturbed at the failure to fires but, since that was the only issue, I am not put off on the gun yet. I will do another range shoot now that I have completely went through the firearm and see how that goes. Frankly, if I can get this gun to perform flawlessly, I could see it making it into a periodical carry.

I'm hoping as I really like the feel of this firearm! It is much better in my hand than my P365 or G43.

I took the METE MC9 to the range again today to put another 200 rounds through it, to see if the thorough cleaning did any good. I had 3 failures to fire this time around as opposed to the 15-20 on the last session! It cycled the ammunition fine when it shot. 100 rounds of Remington UMC 124gr FMJ and 100 rounds of Norma 124gr FMJ. Target was at 8.5yds according to range finder.

About 150 rounds in, the Mecanik M01 red dot, took a crap and never came back on! At this point, I am done for a while with Canik! Which is a shame because the gun, when it shoots, is a real pleasure to shoot!

I feel you. I had mine out two times and had FTF after about 40 rounds each time. One issue I was having was the slide was not going all the way forward. Just enough not to fire. I contacted Canik Customer service and they said I need to break it in using 124 gr NATO rounds. They also sent me another recoil spring (red). I put that in and did get some 124 gr NATO rounds. Maybe a range next week. All of the ammo I used before were 115 gr blazer and Winchester. I did clean the pistol before both trips.

was hoping this place would have an answer for me too... i have a similar problem w/ a rival... sometimes the slide doesnt make it all the way home after a shot... i noticed that if i squeeze the trigger in this condition, the slide then continues into battery and looks like what the op mentions here, no primer strike... i was hoping a "FULL SIZE HIGH FORCE RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLY" will do the job but if the spring itself is too short, maybe it wont... i learned to test cycling w/ the notorious double feed ramp 1911s by not allowing the slide to slam forward when picking up a fresh round under spring tension and holding it back by hand and allowing it to slide forward very slowly... this showed me the slide runs out of spring tension before completing its cycle... not good... i'll call canik today to see what they have to say...

Just got back from the range. I installed the new recoil spring Canik sent me. (Red) I took the 9mm 124 gr NATO rounds and gave it a go. First let me say the spring is really strong and is hard for me to rack the slide. First mag all went well. Second mag after 9 rounds I felt it click when I pulled the trigger. No bang. Dropped the mag and racked the slide. Put the mag back in and racked in a round. Bang then click did the same thing. Took the mag out and put the pistol away. I left all the rounds that went click and no bang on the bench. I looked at them three had a lite strike and two others had none. I talked to the guy behind the counter and he looked at it. When he tried to rack the slide he says where did you get that spring? He took one the have for renting and had me rack it. I told him what Canik said and sent me the spring. So we both think I should put the spring that came with the gun back in and continue shooting another 250 NATO rounds. I'll be going next week. I will again clean and lube before going. He did say I might put more oil on it. Still learning about these plastic type autos.

I've have heard the same thing on the replacement spring that Canik is sending out. Makes no sense to me that folks are saying the original spring is too heavy and causes the slide to short stroke, thus not letting it go fully into battery. Then have Canik send out a replacement with an even heavier spring! Some dip thong has his/her head up their proverbial backside and not looking into this seriously! I think I'll keep shooting mine as is and see if that breaks it in, or just get rid of it and keep on keeping on with my P365.

Just a thought, but have you tried loading up the mags and leaving them for a while? I just got a new SFT Pro today, and was surprised just how hard it is to insert the magazine, and how much resistance there is to slide movement when it's full. My other one has been shot a bit, and had the mags loaded and left for a while, with no such issues. I didn't notice any real problems with those other mags when new, but it seems reasonable.

I just got a new SFT Pro today, and was surprised just how hard it is to insert the magazine, and how much resistance there is to slide movement when it's full. My other one has been shot a bit, and had the mags loaded and left for a while, with no such issues. I didn't notice any real problems with those other mags when new, but it seems reasonable.

Yes I did for over a week. I hope to go to the range next week with the stock recoil spring. I'll see how it is after 300 rounds.

I've got the new recoil assembly on the way, but thought I'd give a new striker spring a try first. Springco has them for a few bucks, so I ordered one. I'll follow up on results once it has arrived and I've had a chance to shoot it in.

I may not even bother to put the one I have coming in if it's that strong! Not as young and strong as I once was!

Same for me I can barely hold the slide to rack it, and I am a big guy.

Those Canik upgrade springs can feel like slide-rack resistance training. Great for recoil control, less great for your grip strength.

My METE Sft is the "tactical" size, not quite a big as my Sfx and easy to carry. I don't usually play with the micro models of anything, but my METE Sft has given me no problems, and the trigger pull weight is<4lbs (3.6-3.7). Full magazines can be a problem on many pistols, and I run extended mags on all my pistols. The simplest way to insert full mags is with the slide locked back (see Occam's razor).
